Using the Gas Rate Calculator in Gas Engineer Software

How to use the built-in Gas Rate Calculator in the Gas Engineer Software mobile apps — including the timer, fuel and unit toggles, and adding your result straight to a certificate.

Written by Product Team

A Gas Rate Calculator is built into the Gas Engineer Software mobile apps, so you can work out heat input from a metered gas rate without switching to a separate app or doing the maths by hand.

Where to find it

Open the Gas Engineer Software app and go to Tools & Manuals > Gas Rate Calculator.

What it can do

  • Timer with 1 and 2 minute toggles — time the meter directly in the app, whichever interval you prefer

  • Natural Gas / LPG toggle — switch fuel type so the calculation uses the correct calorific value

  • Metric / Imperial toggle — work in whichever units the meter uses

  • Saved history — your previous calculations are stored, so you can refer back to them later

  • Torch button — turns on your phone's torch for reading meters in dark spots like attics, cupboards and boiler cabinets

How to use it

  1. Set the fuel type (Natural Gas or LPG) and your units (Metric or Imperial) to match the meter.

  2. Start the timer and read the meter over your chosen 1- or 2-minute interval (or enter the figures manually).

  3. The calculator returns the gas rate and heat input.

  4. Tap the torch button if you need more light on the meter.

  5. Your result is saved automatically to history for later reference.

Using it while creating a certificate

You don't have to leave the certificate you're working on. When you're filling in a record, tap the calculator icon next to the Heat Input field.

The Gas Rate Calculator opens, and once you've done your calculation, the result is added to the Heat Input field automatically so there's no need to copy the number across by hand.
