Using the Gas Pipe Sizing Calculator in Gas Engineer Software

How to use the built-in Gas Pipe Sizing Calculator in the Gas Engineer Software Android app to work out pressure drop across a pipework system, section by section.

Written by Product Team

A Gas Pipe Sizing Calculator is built into the Gas Engineer Software mobile app and helps you check pipework is correctly sized by working out the pressure drop across a system, section by section.

You build up the pipe run one section at a time, and Gas Engineer Software calculates the drop for each part and for the system as a whole.

The Gas Pipe Sizing Calculator is currently available on the Android app, with iOS coming soon.

Where to find it

Open the Gas Engineer Software app and go to Tools & Manuals > Gas Pipe Sizing Calculator.

How to use it

For each section of pipework, enter:

  1. The load — enter any one of gross kW, net kW, or gas rate (m³/hr) and the calculator automatically works out the other two.

  2. Gas type — Natural Gas or LPG.

  3. Pipe diameter and material.

  4. Pipe length, including all branches and connections along that section.

Add each section of the run in turn to build up the full system.

What it gives you

Once your sections are entered, the calculator shows:

  • The pressure drop for each individual section

  • The total pressure drop across the whole system

  • The total pipe length

  • The total gas rate

This makes it quick to spot whether any section — or the system overall — falls outside acceptable limits, so you can adjust pipe diameter or routing before there's a problem.
